Donor-advised funds are rising in popularity with donors, but they are criticized within the nonprofit sector for hoarding funds meant for charitable giving.

On the latest episode of the Inspired Nonprofit Leadership podcast, Charitable Impact CEO John Bromley addressed these concerns, explaining: "The assets in a DAF are already donated to a charity and can only be used for charitable purposes. So, if the funds aren't being distributed, it’s likely because the donor hasn’t found the right opportunity yet."

He sat down with host Sarah Olivieri to discuss how donor-advised funds (DAFs) offer a more accessible and flexible way to give than other channels despite the criticism.

The episode goes beyond financial tools, focusing on how nonprofits can foster deeper, long-term relationships with their donors. John emphasized the importance of viewing donors as partners on a "journey" and keeping them engaged through transparent communication about the organization’s progress.
