IMPACT Podcast - John Bromley

One of the misconceptions that needs to be debunked about philanthropy is that it is reserved only for the wealthiest individuals and is exclusively linked to the amount of money one has to donate. This is far from the truth, and it was discussed during the latest episode of the Impact Podcast with Nigel Bennet and Devon Kenzo, in which our CEO and Founder, John Bromley, participated as a guest expert.
According to Bromley, "It's not about how much money you have, it's about the experience. It's important for people to understand that your time, talent, and money can be used to create change in the world. It's meaningful, and meaningful stuff can often be really fun."
Furthermore, he insisted that philanthropy is not exclusively for the wealthy, "it's not my view at all that philanthropy is only for the wealthy. That's total garbage, right? Yeah. It's like voting is not for the wealthy, either. I mean, philanthropy, at some level, is a way of voting with your dollars to allocate money toward the causes that you think are most important to you. So, it's really important to learn about charitable giving and to increase your literacy over time with charitable giving".
According to Bromley, to successfully learn about charitable giving and enhance its literacy, it is important to understand that "charitable giving is a skill, then it becomes a lifestyle, but it is something that you actually have to learn about how to do. And the better you learn about it, the more likely you are to stick in the game of charitable giving because the confidence piece doesn't annoy you out of the game. When you've got confidence, you can go, oh well, I won't do that again. I'm going to do this next time. Right?
So confidence is a huge key missing in charitable giving for many donors today and a reason why more people aren't participating in charity. And it's a solvable problem, in my opinion. It's actually one of the things Charitable Impact is focused on doing."
