In cities worldwide, people have gathered to demonstrate their support for Ukraine after Russia invaded the country. In such shocking and sad times, the first question is often: How can I help? Our Research Team has collected a list of charities providing food, water, shelter, health care, and other necessities to those affected—including hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing to neighbouring countries.
The generosity showed by Canadians has already been astounding. In just a few days, the $10 million federal government match was met for donations to the Canadian Red Cross. There are continued calls for support to address urgent needs.
Here is our full list of Canadian charities with missions or appeals specific to Ukraine:
Doctors Without Borders Canada / Medecins Sans Frontieres Canada
Health Partners International Canada
Mennonite Central Committee Canada
UPDATE (March 4, 2022): Doctors Without Borders Canada/Medecins Sans Frontieres Canada (MSF) shared the following message for donors:
At this time, we’re asking our supporters to consider giving to MSF’s general emergency fund. Unrestricted funding gives our teams the flexibility to respond whenever and wherever the needs are greatest, in Ukraine, and in more than 70 countries around the world. More than one-third of our humanitarian assistance is for people affected by armed conflict. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, we’re able to act immediately when an emergency strikes, based on our own assessment of medical needs. Your donation today will help us continue providing emergency care to people caught in crisis, including people affected by war in Ukraine, Yemen, and Syria, or other serious conflicts in places like Central African Republic and Myanmar.
From your Impact Account, you can easily manage your giving to one or multiple charities—and keep track of where you have donated. Keep in mind: when you donate on Charitable Impact, you have the flexibility to decide how you will communicate with charities. You have the option to add a brief message, even if you give without sharing your name or contact information. The charity will receive this message with your gift.
